Reagan's Girl Scout Troop went to Camp Wesley Woods today to work on their Junior Camper badge. Even though it was raining, the girls had fun learning how to read maps, build a campfire, cook on the campfire and going on a hike.
the Troop girls
Amelia R, Sadie, Aubrey, Natalie, Amelia S, Cathleen, Rachel, & Reagan
Reagan and mom ready for a day of adventure
Reagan spotted a caterpillar
learning about topographical maps from our guide, Joe
The girls were broken up into 3 teams
Team Alpha: Rachel, Amelia S & Reagan
each team had a different map. The girls had to use their skills to find different shaped punches located around the camp.
each location had a specific punch and the girls had to make sure they got the right one. After it was over, Team Alpha had won the map challenge!!!
gathering around the campfire site
What's the first thing you need to make sure you have when building a campfire?
a water supply to put out the fire
gathering kindling for the fire
the girls were waiting patiently
almost got it, but the rain was making it difficult to catch
this was about as big as our fire got...the wood was wet and it wouldn't stop drizzling
lunch time
We hiked the Blueberry Trail (a 3.5 hour hike)...
and saw mushrooms
...fungus
...an interesting growth (that I forgot what it is called)
Making their nature books with Joe
Reagan and Mom
we have how much further?
writing in their journals
we were really high up
out of the pages of "Camper Magazine"!
...pancake mushrooms
to get back down the trail, we had to climb waterfalls. This one wasn't too bad
This waterfall scared me to death. Straight down with water rushing over our feet, and no where to get a good grip!
Reagan was so brave
safe at the bottom...mom still has to make it down!
look how high that is
What a fun, but exhausting day!
