First Grade Field Trip - Smoky Mountain Heritage Center

Cooper had his first ever school field trip today - and I was able to go with him.  Four of the first grade classes visited the Smoky Mountain Heritage Center in Townsend, TN.  As Cooper put it, they were going to learn about the old days...like the 1970s!!
a little school work before the trip begins
his first ride on a school bus
listening intently to the guide
 sitting in church!
a church from the 1890s
a typical house for a family of four
learning how to make corn cob darts
 letting them fly!
 a typical barn
 ready...set...throw
 Love his face!
 throwing for accuracy
 Cooper hit the target!
 Ms M's Class 2014-15
 reading in the outhouse
 me and my boy
remember...this is only 4 of the 18 1st grade classes at Cooper's school!!!
the kids all helped shake the mason jar to make butter
each child had to do a chore...Cooper's was to sweep the front porch
tasting the butter they made...Cooper said it was the best thing he'd ever eaten!
 they all made button strings
and practiced with the wheel & hook

Pumpkin Carving 2014

This was the first year that we actually carved pumpkins.  We've painted, put stickers on, & made "Mr Potato Head" Pumpkins in previous years; but today the kids got to touch the insides.
Reagan was not happy to put her hands in the pumpkin
 Cooper thought it was fun!
Or, maybe it was a little gross!
Look how disgusted Reagan is with the whole process (...and carving was her idea!)
dad to the rescue...but still an unhappy face!
 stenciling the pumpkins
 the finished product
Cooper's...
 Reagan's...
where did this silly boy come from
Happy Halloween!
