Cooper's class was asked to draw a self portrait last week.  They will draw another self portrait at the end of the year to see how much they've improved!
Presenting...Cooper
He said he had brown (tanned) legs and spikey brown hair, blue eyes and he likes the color green...that's why his smile is that color!

Mother's Day Tea-Ball

Today was an exciting day for both Reagan and Cooper.  The first grade at Reagan's school hosted a Mother's Day Tea for all of the moms.  We were treated to breakfast and a sweet program from the kids.  Cooper had a ballgame this afternoon and had an awesome game ~ he had 2 great hits and fielded all but 4 of the balls from the other team.

Cooper took a few pictures of Reagan and I this morning...
 this one is better!
Cooper wanted to have his picture made too.  Notice we're all in orange ~ Reagan coordinated all of our outfits!
 my date for the morning
Each child wrote a poem about their mom and read it aloud in front of their classmates & guests.
Needless to say, there weren't a lot of dry eyes in the room when all of the kids had finished reading about their moms!
MY MOM:
My mom is nice because she does a lot of things. She cooks me food; she tucks me into bed; she is the best mom I could ever have. She is nice to me.
our breakfast:  biscuits & jelly and apple bites ~ compliments of the cafeteria

I wasn't able to get a lot of really good pictures at the ballgame tonight because they played on a different field where my camera angle was obstructed by the fence

He hit this ball all the way to the grass!

Reagan's Art

Here are a few pieces of Reagan's artwork that has been sent home from school recently.

the American Flag
she was asked to draw a hot air balloon and write about where she would like it to take her.
Tennessee, Museum, Beach, Dig for Dinosaurs
"I would like to go to the beach.  It is fun to do in the summer.  You can go swimming.  You can jump in the waves.  You can invite your grandparents."
And finally, I know it's close to Easter, but this was sent home from St Patrick's Day.
"What is worth more than gold?  God"
If that doesn't make your heart swell with pride, I don't know what will!

Ms Liberty

Reagan had a "National Symbol" project due for school.  Her symbol was the Statue of Liberty.  She had to write a report and do some sort of project.

She dressed up as the Statue of Liberty
 Cooper couldn't be left out!
Here's her report.  The instructions were to be 3 or 4 sentences in the student's own words.

Scenes from School

At school this past week, Cooper learned about the letter "S".  I tried to supplement his learning at home, continuing with the letter "S".  Here are a  few of the worksheets that we did at home.

Stegosaurus
 Snake and tracing letters
 painted snake
he's doing a great job writing his name all by himself
Snail - and he had to find the letter "S" and circle it
this was our memory verse for the week.  He colored everything orange because he said that he wanted them to be from Tennessee
Reagan wrote this sweet note at school about Greg.
"My dad is grate (great) because he makes frich toste (french toast) somedays.  One day when I was five or six I whet (went) on a baty (date) with me and my dad.  My dad is nice to me.  My dad is good at cooking frish toste (french toast).  He play with me sometimes."
I put this in a frame and Greg is going to hang it on his wall at work!  Oh, and he also made french toast for breakfast this morning!!

Sent Home

Here is some school work that has been sent home this week.

This had been hanging in the hallway at school since the beginning of the year and was just sent home today.  The kids in Reagan's class were asked to write what they will do differently this year (a resolution of sorts).
Reagan wrote:  I will be nicer to my brother.  Biy (by) helping.  I'll give (him) stuf (stuff) that he was (wants).

Cooper's class is learning about the letter "Q" this week.  They used Quaker Oats to make an art project.  Cooper made a tractor.  When I picked him us he showed it to me and asked, "Is this a tractor?"  I responded, "yes baby, it's very good."  He then said, "It doesn't look like a tractor!"  I told him, it was "abstract".  He seemed to be ok with that answer.

Christmas Camp ~ Science Center Day

This was our last week-day of "Mom's Christmas Camp" with the kids!  We had a very full day as you can tell by all of the pictures.

one last breakfast at Cafe Living Room
 playing trains and safari
painting the art supplies we bought earlier in the week
they're loving the new art table
 painting his rooster blue
Reagan is painting magnets to hold her art work on the refrigerator
Cooper and Reagan tried his new roller painters out
 they work great!
Reagan painted a rainbow picture for me
Here's the finished art work for the morning
they also ate lunch at Cafe Living Room ~ I've heard the service it great!
After lunch, we went to the science center
 Checking out the turtles
our old friends, the sting rays
showing me the fish that look like the ones in his tank in his room
Looking for Smiley the Sting Ray
 petting Smiley
Smiley was very playful today and let Reagan and Cooper pet him several times
He also did tricks for them like floating on his back
Smiley would also jump up and splash the kids
We moved on to the exhibit part of the center
we had to follow the blue line to the play building
 playing with a train set
building structures to see if they can stand up to an earthquake
they got to make a recording on a xylophone
they used pulleys to pull each other up
 they shot rockets at targets
and went back to the pulleys again
then, we went to the playhouse area
they built a huge wall of bricks so I couldn't take any more pictures of them!
We saw an African Spurred Tortoise
Finally, we capped off our day with dinner at Chick Fil A ~ and an ice cream for dessert!
What a fun/busy/exhausting day!!
